HOW TO GET TO AND AROUND SIQUIJOR

Getting to Siquijor is very easy. In our case, we came all the way from Cebu. I had an exam earlier that same day and all of a sudden, my brain needed some kind of distressing and decided to went anyway. If you come from Cebu, go to Southbus Terminal and ride a Ceres bus to Dumaguete. The ride from Cebu to Dumaguete including the ferry crossing usually takes about 4 hours on average. We reached Dumaguete by 8 PM, had dinner and stayed there overnight.

The next day, we decided to go to Siquijor early in the morning. From the inn where we stayed, We made our way to the ferry terminal as early as 5 AM because the first trip to Siquijor is 6 AM. When we arrived at Siquijor, we just hired a tricycle for Php 1000 to get us around the island all day. The price still depends on the number of people in the group and your skills of negotiating (if you know what I mean). You don’t need to book ahead as many tricycle drivers are lining up and eager to tour you around.

First on the list of best tourist spots in Siquijor is the Century Old Balete Tree. Locals said that spirits come out at night and sometimes, you can see faces between the roots of this big tree. Locals also said that the source of the water in the spring right at the foot of this tree is still unknown. This spring is full of fishes, and you can dip your feet and have a foot spa.

This is only right beside the equally old Lazi Church. This convent is a national landmark of the island of Siquijor. This 127-year old convent was built using local hardwood and coral stones. It is a spacious two-story building in an L-shape with the facade facing the Church.

PALITON BEACH

Who wouldn’t fall in love with these pristine waters? Paliton Beach was our first destination from the port and the next on the list of best tourist spots in Siquijor. The sight was beautiful plus the white sand. The place is surrounded by huge palm trees and bancas (small boats). You can see them lying in the sand. There are only a few people that time which makes swimming much convenient given the beach is all by ourselves.

Jump!

What I enjoyed the most was the Tarzan swing from one of the many vines.

Make sure that you bring some loose change because there is a fee for you to do this. The Lubid Boys, as we call them, will ask for Php 20.00 for you to get an unlimited experience of the swing.

SALOGDOONG BEACH

Best Tourist Spots in Siquijor

Off the shore was a rocky outcrop with some remains of abandoned water slides. The outcrop was a spot for cliff-jumping. This is the very reason why we are here in Siquijor. If you can’t jump, you can just climb up to enjoy the view. But, if you feel being a daredevil, you are very free to jump!

KANHERON RANCH

Best Tourist Spots in Siquijor

This place is an exotic American West Museum. What built this place was the love for art and western antiques of Fil-Am couple Daryl and Maribel. They have already assumed citizenships in the US but still pursued in building this museum because of their care for their mother country.
